The onset of English lexical acquisition among Malaysian preschoolers

English is undoubtedly an important language for educational and socio-economic mobility in numerous countries including Malaysia. Regardless of its importance, studies to document acquisition among Malaysian children acquiring the local context remain scarce. This normative data imperative syllabus-designers, policymakers, teachers linguists understand develop materials that are developmentally sensitive contextualised setting. Thus, objective this paper present onset lexical 99 preschoolers at beginning formal instruction. The were pupils 3 public preschools Klang Valley, children’s production was elicited individual communicative tasks. Their output, both Malay analysed based on choice during session as well frequencies types tokens. results indicate displayed a limited range productive abilities age-sensitive vocabulary However, point, already possess receptive skills greater than their skills. Based findings, implications pedagogy also discussed.
